Disquiet over Okorocha’s Imo 2015 comment

The political atmosphere in Owerri, the Imo State capital, was heated
up at the weekend following Governor Rochas Okorocha’s comments on the
state’s ideal governorship candidate in 2015.Okorocha, speaking at the yearly Oru-Owerri Festival, said people with questionable character, including “419 persons” and women who beat their husbands would not be voted for.
The governor said the would-be governor must be godly, honest and decent.
His statement angered many aspirants who stormed out of the venue.
A senator allegedly wept before moving out of the venue with aides and other supporters.
Other aspirants, who earlier adorned the venue with their campaign posters, left furiously as a large part of the crowd continued to urge Okorocha on, despite spirited efforts by some hired thugs to shout him down.
But a statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, warned politicians, especially governorship aspirants, to jettison intolerant attitudes that could heat up the polity.

Deputy Secretary, Evang. Elliot Uko, the Igbo Leaders of Thought, ILT, issued a statement on behalf of Igbos during the weekend.
In the statement, the Igbo leader said, described as worrisome the Sallah day arrest in Borno State of a long trailer laden with bombs and IED’s disguised as cattle merchants headed for Onitsha and Port Harcourt.
"This simply tells us that those who are committed to bombing the east are very serious at their plans.
We have two choices facing us. One is to keep quiet and look the other way until it happens. The other is exactly what we are doing now: Raise our voice in warning, praying and hoping that this avoidable catastrophe would pass us by. Truth is that Boko Haram is desperate to bomb eastern Nigeria. We don’t want that to happen because the implications are clearly frightening.

Good times are here again for Hip hop artist, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, otherwise known as Vector, if words coming from the singer’s camp are anything to go by. John Dumelo Was My Crush- Yvonne Nelson
And that's because Yvonne just described John as her "crush".
She made the statement during a chat with Peace Hyde of GHOne TV when she dropped a bomb saying "a lot of men suck!"
That means she's still single and not yet ready to mingle!
She insists that what exists between her and John is simply fantasy and that they didn't date.
“He (John Dumelo) was my first crush when I first joined the industry, but we are now friends, not just friends but best of friends now, and he has a girlfriend somewhere,” Yvonne revealed in response to a question on whether she had ever had a crush on an industry person.

Suarez 'too good' for Arsenal, says Gerrard
LONDON: Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed he told former
team-mate Luis Suarez he was "too good" to join Arsenal when the north
London club came calling for him last year.
Arsenal tabled a £40,000,001 ($67.5 million, 50.4 million euros) bid for Suarez a year ago in the mistaken belief it would trigger a release clause in his contract.
The Uruguayan went on to score 31 goals as Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Premier League title and although he has since joined Barcelona, Gerrard was relieved not to see him move to Arsenal.
"Last summer, when Luis was out in the cold, I told him, 'Don't go to Arsenal,'" Gerrard told the Thursday editions of several British newspapers. "With all due respect to them, I told him he was too good for Arsenal."
Barcelona paid £75 million to secure Suarez's services, despite the fact he is currently serving a four-month ban after biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil.
While Gerrard was loath to see the back of a player who he has described as the most talented he has ever played with, he understood the 27-year-old's reasons for heading to Catalonia.
"Luis's dream, from the first day he came to us, was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona," said the 34-year-old.
"I said, 'If you score 30 goals for us and win the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) Player of the Year and FWA (Football Writers' Association) Footballer of the Year (awards), they will come back for you.'

Keshi set for improved Nigeria deal
Abuja (AFP) - The Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Wednesday they are finalising a
new deal for national coach Stephen Keshi.
Following
an executive committee meeting in Abuja the NFF said in a statement
they have approved that acting president Mike Umeh call an emergency
meeting to ensure Keshi's re–engagement "within the shortest possible
time".
It is believed that Keshi will receive an improved contract
of 7 million Naira (over $44,000) a month, up from his current five
million Naira.
Keshi took over
in 2011 and his first contract ended after the World Cup. The
52-year-old led Nigeria to the round of 16 in Brazil after guiding the
Super Eagles to a third Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa last
year.
